Things to consider when using a web-based video conferencing tool

There are some additional considerations when delivering NDF virtually:

  • Local policy and procedures need to be followed in order to protect patient data and confidentiality.

  • The video conferencing tool that you use will be governed by your organisation.

  • It may be useful for Educators to become familiar with the functions of their video conferencing tool, such as the screen share facility, chat function, use of mute/unmute as these functions may help facilitation of the programme.

  • The Educators may need to be the hosts to admit participants.

  • Biomedical Data may be forwarded in advance (post/email/text) or participants could obtain this locally for themselves. Depending on the video conferencing tool you use you may have a private chat function which could be used to send this information to participants directly.

  • You may find it useful to have the correct document prepared in advance of the session and is ‘open’ and ready to be screen shared.

  • Depending on your video conferencing tool, there is the possibility that participants may be able to join via telephone only if they do not have a smart phone, tablet, laptop or computer. In this case, you will need to adapt this guidance and provide an audio description for any visual aids used.
