The MyDesmond app has reached its 2000th user since it went live in 2018.

Accessible on all devices, such as smartphones, tablets and desktops, MyDesmond provides a range of services for those who have or are at risk of type 2 diabetes.

Users can monitor their step count, set daily targets, compete with other users and track distances.

It was developed to help Desmond attendees boost their activity levels and lower their chances of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

It also provides a forum for users to share views and experiences and allows them to monitor their weight, blood pressure, diet, HbA1c levels and cholesterol.

There is access to an online library and the opportunity to ask an expert from the Leicester Diabetes Centre questions privately.

MyDesmond went live in June 2018 and was immediately made available to all Desmond sites in the UK.

It began being used as a maintenance programme for those who had attended the face-to-face Desmond programme, but now it is being offered as a standalone programme for those that are unable or refuse to attend in person.

Desmond Director Bernie Stribling said:

“We’re incredibly proud of the MyDesmond app as we thought it would be a total game changer. Less than a year since inception, we’ve already got more than 500 users.

“People are using MyDesmond to interact and we’ve seen 9,000 log-ins so far and more than 25 million steps clocked up across 10,000 miles. More than 21 hours of education sessions have been accessed, so it’s clearly working for a lot of people.”
