MyDESMOND is being made available for an international audience as it is set to launch in Australia.

The online self-management programme, developed for people living with type 2 diabetes, has been given the go ahead by the Commonwealth Government of Australia.

Diabetes WA can now adapt, pilot and roll out the initiative, which will be made available through Australia’s National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), by June 2020.

All people who are registered to the NDSS will be able to access the online programme which will complement the DESMOND face-to-face programme that is already delivered nationally.

Bernie Stribling, DESMOND’s Director, said:

“Through our strong international partnership with Diabetes WA, we’re over the moon to announce this exciting news.

“Type 2 diabetes is a worldwide epidemic, so it’s great that we’re able to take MyDESMOND around the world and introduce an international audience to the programme.”

Diabetes WA is also adapting the online programme Baby Steps for Australian consumers.

It was designed to reduce the risk of future type 2 diabetes in women who have experienced Gestational Diabetes (GDM).

Bernie added:

“With the vast distances and remote populations in Australia, this is good news for equity of access to quality diabetes programmes and services and a great example of international collaboration.”
