Education champions
As part of the initial local set-up of your DESMOND service, it is always extremely important to have a range of Champions in place to help with promoting and supporting the drive for patients to attend. These need to be from a range of sources, as outlined below:
GP/HCP Champions – Their role would be to:
Help promote the use of diabetes education to all HCPs in the local area – with an emphasis on potential referrers
Assist in the development of a sustainable patient pathway in which diabetes education is integrated
Support in ensuring all promotional opportunities are sourced and fulfilled
Help build and sustain buy-in at all levels of local organisations and with all key stakeholder groups
Patient Champions – Their role would be to:
Help promote the use of DESMOND throughout the community via a variety of media
Be part of the PPI committee (How to Work with PPI) to help in the development of acceptable promotional materials and avenues
Provide a point of reference in the adaptation of services and their accessibility, as part of the PPI committee
