#ThinkInsulin with LDC’s Injectable Therapies Programme

Our Injectable Therapies Programme has been designed for people living with #type2diabetes to have a better understanding of glycaemic control & increase confidence to manage their diabetes.

Sheena McDonald, Clinical Manager for Diabetes & Endocrinology at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, explains: "NHS Ayrshire and Arran has a high prevalence of type 2 diabetes. The specialist diabetes team have delivered type 2 diabetes group education for many years; however, they have found people often struggle to implement self-management skills to adjust insulin or adapt lifestyle factors to improve glycaemic control.

“I was inspired when I heard about the Injectable Therapies Programme which contained a similar theory to the local group, however, the delivery methods and approach seemed more in keeping with the self-management philosophy. The main difference for the participants is the opportunity to practice new skills and share and learn from each other's experiences.

“The staff have really enjoyed the delivery of the sessions and notice the change in the delivery creates a learning environment to support self-management.  We are just 3 months into the delivery of Injectable Therapies, and I'm encouraged by participant and staff feedback.

“I hope in the future we can provide more groups in locations throughout Ayrshire and everyone with type 2 diabetes on either insulin or GLP-1 medication have the opportunity to attend."

People living with diabetes who have completed the course said:

  • “Very good course learned a vast amount of information on my condition.”

  • “I now after attending sessions have much more knowledge of a condition I have had for more than 20 years and feel much more confident going on.”

  • “Personally, they changed all my medications and have helped me to go from 67% time in range on my blood glucose levels to 98% this week. Throughout the course, and with the knowledge provided, they have empowered me to be able to take much better control of my condition.”

  • “I truly believe that the course I attended will be a lifesaver. Three full days of education, analysis, group therapy, fun (yes, fun!) and no judgment. Only help and support.”

  • “Of the 10 or 12 or so attendees I would think that the medications were altered for most of us. Reviewing the results over the period from the first day to the last (a span of 4 weeks in between) was impressive as nearly all had improved readings and every one of us walked out knowing significantly more about our conditions and how to manage it.”
