National Trainer, Grace Bathgate Retires

Grace Bathgate, DESMOND National Trainer, will retire this Summer from her role with us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Grace for her amazing contribution and commitment to DESMOND and the world of diabetes patient education.

Grace started working for the DESMOND National team in 2008 following her accreditation as one of a handful of Educators delivering the Newly Diagnosed programme for people with type 2 diabetes in Scotland. Initially, Grace trained as both a DESMOND National Trainer and Assessor whilst also working in Lothian as a Diabetes Dietitian. Being able to juggle two jobs demonstrates her immense dedication to diabetes patient education.

Travelling up and down the UK for training and QD visits, Grace has covered some miles, none more than when she traveled to Western Australia to support the launch of our Australian Train the Trainer programme. Over the years, Grace has supported hundreds of Educators in various programmes, including Newly Diagnosed and Prevention, such as; Walking away, Healthier you and Let’s Prevent Diabetes.

A truly valued member of the DESMOND National Team, Grace has supported so many of our other national trainers as they have started on their own journeys. Her gentle, kind and caring nature is always apparent and she is fondly known by the team as “Amazing Grace”.

Grace will continue to work as a Diabetes Dietitian in Lothian but will now have more time to relax and enjoy precious family time.

On behalf of the DESMOND National team it is with sincere gratitude that we wish Grace all the very best and an enjoyable retirement.
