MyDESMOND wins PCDS poster award
MyDESMOND’s poster, Evaluating a digital diabetes self-management programme (MyDESMOND) during COVID-19, is the winning entry of this year’s poster competition at the 16th National Conference of the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS)
All digital poster entries were judged throughout the 2-day virtual conference by a group of leading diabetes experts. Hosted on the PCDS National posters page, they were accessible on the live stream of the conference, for all delegates who attended the conference to view and download.
The MyDESMOND team were notified on the evening of the final day of the conference, Friday 6th November that they had won.
Alison Northern, Implementation Manager, DESMOND said:
“We are delighted to have been selected as the winning entry by the judges at PCDS. Our vision is to take healthcare self-management education to the next level and for MyDESMOND to be recognised as a vital resource for people during COVID-19 is a true testament to this vision.
“We have seen a five-fold increase in registered users since the UK went into lockdown back in March, and this is down to the hard-work and dedication of MyDESMOND Providers and Diabetes Teams from across the UK ensuring that, despite being faced with a national pandemic, patients’ needs are still being met.”
Jacqui Troughton, Senior Clinical Research Associate (Dietitian), Lead for intervention development, training and assessment and Honarary Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences, University of Leicester, added:
“Being at the inception of MyDESMOND, I am really happy to see that My DESMOND has proven to be such a valuable resource for people at risk of or living with type 2 diabetes during the coronavirus pandemic. To be recognised by PCDS for this, is a truly wonderful accolade and we are all delighted at Team DESMOND.”
The posters are now available to view online via the PCDS National on-demand resource page for a 9-month period.
MyDESMOND is a digital diabetes programme for adults with or at risk of type 2 diabetes and was developed by the team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre.
It brings together the content and research evidence from our NICE approved face-to-face DESMOND self-management programmes to a portable interactive web-based platform to support people in managing their health.
MyDESMOND has grown to be one of the largest available digital diabetes education programmes across the UK. Originally launched in 2018, it is now available in over 90 locations across the country; find out if MyDESMOND is available near you by clicking here.
