The MyDESMOND programme has gone from strength-to-strength over the last 18 months and this has been further supported by a development project that was funded by Novo Nordisk.

The team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre were funded to explore and develop the tailoring of content for cultural appropriateness, as well as develop new content to provide practical and emotional support to people with type 2 diabetes during a pandemic.

The team carried out a range of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) work which was critical to be able to translate, not just into the specific dialect, but also ensuring it remained culturally relevant. Our Centre for Black and Minority Ethnic Health, based here in Leicester has been instrumental in their support of making this happen, so it was culturally relevant to the respective community groups.

As a result of this work, your MyDESMOND Users can now access:

·         A new Learning Session entitled ‘Keeping Well During a Pandemic’

·         Updated and future-proofed information about Covid-19 and type 2 diabetes

·         A wider range of images throughout the programme to meet the needs of different groups

·         Audio recordings for six videos within the programme in Bengali and Hindi (these can be found under the video within each Learning Session)

In time we hope to gain additional funding to expand this work further and in to other languages.
