2024 Celebrating DESMOND Awards - Closed to New Applications

We are pleased to announce that the Celebrating DESMOND Awards are back for another year with a few changes! 

We would like to hear about the work that you and your colleagues have been undertaking to keep your services going and continue to provide five-star services for your patients; this may be in our group programmes (DESMOND newly diagnosed & foundation, Let's Prevent Diabetes, Walking Away from Diabetes or Injectable Therapies) or for in relation to any of our digital interventions (MyDESMOND, Let's Prevent, Babysteps). 

This year we have split the Excellence award to attract applications in relation to 'Excellence in Group Education' and 'Excellence in Digital Education'. Plus, the winners from our 5 categories will be automatically entered into a new Outstanding Achievement Award. We welcome you to get imaginative with your applications. We would love to see some video or audio file submissions, but if writing is your forte, then we have provided space within our application form for this also.

Closing date will be Friday 6 September 2024.

We will be in touch with all applicants via email w/c 16 September 2024.

With a celebratory event to be held at the Leicester Diabetes Centre on Wednesday 13 November 2024, with guest speakers and workshops throughout the morning and early afternoon, and awards presentation to end the day.

We have five categories which are listed below, along with a few hints/tips for each:

 

1.     The Deirdre McGowan Educator of the Year

·        Can be nominated or nominate self.

·        Makes a difference to the lives of people with, or at risk of, type 2 diabetes.

·        Shows an outstanding commitment to the DESMOND philosophy and principles.

·        Supports and mentors fellow Educators as well as the participant learners.

 2.     Team of the Year

·        Delivering high-quality education to people with or at risk of type 2 diabetes.

·        Strive to be the best at what they do.

 3.     Innovation

·        Develops and tests new innovative ideas in their DESMOND service.

·        Innovates to set themselves apart from the rest.

·        Can show a meaningful impact on the lives of people with or at risk of type 2 diabetes.

 4.     Excellence in Group Education

·        This award could be for an individual or group of people

·        Tell us about how you/your colleague/s have gone above and beyond in the provision and/or delivery of Group Education – this could include face-to-face or virtual groups, and in relation to any of our group programmes (Newly Diagnosed & Foundation, Let’s Prevent, Walking Away, Injectables)

·        How have you/they been exemplary in what they have done or achieved?

 5.     Excellence in Digital Education

·        This award could be for an individual or group of people

·        Tell us about how you/your colleague/s have gone above and beyond in the provision of Digital Education – this could include any of our digital interventions – MyDESMOND, Let’s Prevent or Babysteps.
