Providing choice for patients

Patient choice is a key element to getting your service right. Until recently the focus has always been on providing face-to-face structured self-management group education for patients. This is still as important today as ever, however there is now a range of other offerings that can help to further support those that have attended a group programme, as well as provide an alternative for those that are not able to attend a group.

Here at DESMOND we currently offer the following for all of our type 2 management and prevention programmes;

  • Face-to-face group curriculum

  • Virtual group delivery guidance

  • MyDESMOND digital education

  • We also hope to soon make available a range of materials to help support those for which these are not appropriate or when impossible to deliver due to national pandemics.

Especially with digital offers it is important to spend time understanding the evidence, benefits and governance of any potential supplier, as daily a new ‘app’ or ‘website’ pops onto the market claiming to ‘cure diabetes’ or ‘solve all health problems’. Quality and reputation, as well as value for money are key when making such a decision.
