Overview
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has offered DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) structured Type 2 Diabetes patient education since 2015. Since then, almost 6000 people have completed a DESMOND course either face to face or virtually across the County. Over 2000 people have also registered for MyDESMOND.
DESMOND is a quality assured education programme for adults diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and their family members or carers. The course is delivered by two friendly educators and has an interactive approach to learning. A DESMOND course lasts 6 hours, either 2 half days on consecutive weeks, or one full day.
In each group there may be people who have been diagnosed just a few weeks or a number of years. It might be the first time someone has attended a course, or they may have been before. The course is suitable for anyone with a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis.
As a team we are dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic, and that is reflected throughout our DESMOND delivery and feedback received.
“Lots of valuable information thank you. Leaflets that I can refer back to. Encouragement and useful to hear other’s stories, difficulties, opinions. Good use of 'props'.”
